ABOUT THE PROJECT

Today, most ruminant farmers have included lupine in their rations arbitrarily and use the whole fruit (without crushing) without heat treatment, with the result that its benefits in animal nutrition and health are significantly limited.

In other words, the following are observed: A) reduced digestibility of lupine and all feedstuffs included in the ration, B) a high proportion of undigested feedstuffs in the manure resulting in the loss of nutrients, C) reduced consumption of dry matter.

A direct consequence of these is both the reduced productivity and the reduced response of the immune system of the animals resulting in the manifestation of various diseases. For the implementation of the Business Plan, a quantity of self-produced lupine will undergo thermal treatment in a special machine, which causes thermal denaturation of the protease inhibitors, improving the nutritional value of its seeds, which become particularly easy to digest.

Heat-treated lupine seeds can now be included in the rations of dairy cows, with the aim of reducing the use of soybean meal as much as possible, without adverse effects on the consumption of dry matter, milk production (adult cows) and the development of the female sires of the specific herd. breeding (calves). Analyzes will be carried out on the produced lupine (nutrients, heavy metals, mycotoxins, dioxins, pesticide residues). The ration will be analyzed before the addition of the lupine and after, in different proportions.

Finally, the effect of heat-treated proteins against parasites will be mainly recorded and their effects on the health and well-being of the animals will be determined (general blood test, determination of biochemical parameters related to the condition of the liver and kidneys of cows) The conclusions from the present Operational Plan will be used for the further development of lupine cultivation, as a substitute for imported soybeans and its potential benefits will enhance both milk and meat production and animal health.
